Loretta Long has been with Sesame Street since its first season and has enjoyed watching her role as Susan evolve from housewife to nurse to working mother over the years. On the show, Susan is married to Gordon and is Miles' mother. Before coming to Sesame Street, Dr. Loretta Long was a school teacher and had done television and club appearances in Australia, appearing in acclaimed shows such as Guys and Dolls, Sweet Charity, and the public television program Soul.
In addition to her work on Sesame Street, Dr. Long is a sought after educator and consultant who holds a doctorate degree in education from the University of Massachusetts. She has joined several institutions as a distinguished visiting scholar and has taught a variety of courses on multi-culturalism, diversity, and education.
