Vincent Bugliosi Biography

Vincent Bugliosi

Vincent Bugliosi is the acclaimed prosecutor who convicted Charles Manson in the bloody Tate/Labianca murders, the most bizarre mass murder case in the recorded annals of crime. The story of that case was immortalized in Bugliosi's bestselling true crime book, Helter Skelter. The book was turned into a highly successful television movie which continues to draw high ratings in reruns.

Another of his books is Outrage: The Five Reasons Why OJ Simpson Got Away With Murder, which hit #1 in the New York Times bestsellers list. It is a book no one else dared to write, that no one else could write. It is the only book out of the over 60 on the Simpson case that was nominated for the Edgar Allen Poe award as best true crime book of the year. Vanity Fair's Dominick Dunne says "If you only have time to read one book on the criminal trial of OJ Simpson, I would recommend without hesitation, Vincent Bugliosi's Outrage". The American Bar Association adds: "One can be sure, Outrage is the best book that will ever be written on the OJ Simpson murder trial". Bugliosi's lecture on the trial has been spellbinding audiences throughout the country.

Bugliosi's most recent book is The Betrayal of America: How the Supreme Court Undermined the Constitution and Chose Our President. He is currently at work on a book about the John F. Kennedy assassination.

You may have seen Bugliosi in the British television production in which he prosecuted Lee Harvey Oswald for the assassination of John F. Kennedy against the celebrated defense attorney Gerry Spence. For this special he prepared for six months as if it were an actual case, working over 100 hours per week. The 21 hour docu trial had a real judge and jury, the actual witnesses in the Kennedy case, and no script or actors. The jury convicted Oswald.

Bugliosi received his law degree in 1964 from UCLA Law School. ln his career as a prosecutor for the Los Angeles District Attorney's office, he lost only one out of the 106 felony jury trials he prosecuted, including 21 consecutive murder convictions. His most famous trial was that of Charles Manson. But even before that, the starring role of Robert Conrad in the TV series The DA was patterned after him. None other than F. Lee Bailey calls Vince Bugliosi "the quintessential prosecutor".
