Jared Milrad is a lawyer, social entrepreneur, actor, and activist. Featured in national and international media, he is an increasingly well-known advocate for a variety of progressive causes and a leading Millennial voice in politics and social change.
Most recently, Jared was featured with his fiancé, Nathan, in Secretary Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign launch video. Making history as the first same-sex couple to appear in a presidential announcement, Jared and Nathan received widespread press coverage in print publications such as The New York Times, The Washington Post, Time, and The Guardian as well as in numerous television and online outlets such as ABC, NBC, CBS, MSNBC, HuffPost Live and the BBC. In addition to receiving a personal letter of support from Secretary Clinton, Jared and Nathan serve as surrogates for Secretary Clinton’s presidential campaign and are outspoken advocates for marriage equality and LGBT rights.
Additionally, Jared is the Founder of Civic Legal Corps, a nationally recognized nonprofit organization. Dedicated to empowering talented new attorneys to provide low-cost legal services for low and moderate income families, Civic Legal Corps is supported by luminaries such as philanthropist Peter Buffett, U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor (Ret.), and Harvard Law School Dean Martha Minow. Twice selected as a semi-finalist for the prestigious Echoing Green Global Fellowship, Jared raised more than $170,000 to support Civic Legal Corps and has been invited to discuss his work at the White House, the Aspen Institute, and Harvard Law School.
Prior to developing Civic Legal Corps, Jared worked as a field organizer, voter protection director, and fundraising lead for President Barack Obama. He attended Northeastern University School of Law, where he interned at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit and the White House Office of Presidential Personnel. He earned his undergraduate degree, with highest honors, from North Carolina State University, where he was a Caldwell Fellow, a recipient of the General Hugh Shelton Leadership Award of Excellence, and the May 2006 Student Commencement Speaker. Jared completed his graduate studies at Tufts University, where he received the Presidential Award for Citizenship and Public Service.
Raised by a single parent and educated in public schools in New York City and New Jersey, Jared has long believed in the ideals of public service and the power of one voice to make a difference. He is a frequent traveler, having lived in eight states and participated in community service projects on four continents, and is an independent actor and improvisational performer trained at The Second City Chicago. Currently writing an autobiographical book about the importance of authenticity, Jared lives with his fiancé, Nathan, and his rescue dog, Cooper, in Chicago, IL.
