Geraldine Ferraro

Geraldine A. Ferraro, following her historic 1984 campaign as the first woman vice-presidential candidate on a national party ticket with Walter Mondale, continues to be active as a lecturer, teacher, author, and policy expert.

An analyst for FOX News, Geraldine A. Ferraro taught at the Georgetown University School of Public Policy and was a columnist for the New York Times Syndicate. In addition to authoring many articles, Ferraro has written three books, including Ferraro: My Story, which recounts the '84 campaign.

Ms. Geraldine Ferraro spent three years as a co host on Crossfire, CNN's popular debate program, from 1996 to 1998.

Ms. Ferraro's vice presidential candidacy highlighted a lifetime of achievement. She was elected as a Democratic congresswoman to represent New York's 9th Congressional District for three terms, from 1979 1985. While in Congress, she served on several committees, including the Budget Committee. She was twice elected to House leadership as secretary of the Democratic Caucus.

As a member of the Executive Board of the Congressional Caucus for Women's Issues in the House of Representatives, Ms. Geraldine Ferraro spearheaded efforts to achieve passage of the Women's Economic Equity Act and the Equal Rights Amendment. She authored sections of the Equity Act dealing with private pension reform which have since been passed into law.

In 1998, Geraldine Ferraro was diagnosed with a rare cancer of the bone marrow affecting plasma cells. She has since received cutting edge care from Dr. Ken Anderson, director of the Multiple Myeloma Center at Dana Farber. Now in remission, Geraldine Ferraro is president of an international management consulting firm and is busy raising funds and lobbying for myeloma research.

Ms. Geraldine Ferraro was born in Newburgh, New York on August 26, 1935. She and her husband, businessman John Zaccaro, have three children: Donna, John Jr., and Laura.
